Richard Chartier, a local sound artist and graphic designer, designed this artwork to convey the dynamic aspects of television production and to enhance the visual character of the Arlington TV studios (formerly Arlington Virginia Network [AVN]). This project is his first mural design. Chartier’s sound installations have been exhibited and presented locally and internationally, including at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
Laura Traverso, a local muralist and illustrator, translated Chartier’s digital design into paint using hand-made templates to transfer the design to the wall. Traverso has completed commissions for private residences and institutional clients, such as the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, and has worked as an art teacher and children’s book illustrator.
